Thanks, Ocean- the switch thing is what I ended up doing anyway... and yeah, I realized that while it is now slow enough to look natural, it is beyond the point of both looking natural and not being obnoxiously slow at the same time.... So I'll do away with it all together if I can't whip up the running button feature and get it to work nicely.

Toggle does sound like a better option. If it's a item attached to a common event, I can also switch to a separate animation for running... so the whole thing sounds good to me.

Also- I'm fairly sure I saw a patch somewhere that allows use of all keys... then again, I wouldn't be sure how to use it. Thanks for your time, I apologize for being such a horrible coder.

I have come to show you my sprites.

Amazing? Really? :D

Thank you very much.

speed

It works great! Still a tad slower than I might like, but I suppose that can't be helped. It's good as is....

I hate to be a bother, but I also want to ask- how would you suggest I make a 'Run button' feature? It's probably impossible in RM2K, and my only idea involves covering the screen in events. Ugh. There's got to be a better way, or none at all....

speed

*facepalm* Ah, goodness, why didn't I think of that!? Sorry, I, uh, didn't realize it would do that.

Thanks a million! I'll go check that out.

I have come to show you my sprites.

I made these chickens! :DD. Aren't you proud of me?

Anyway... they're original sprites from the ground up. I had some pictures of chickens to look at, but otherwise these babies are entirely original. Don't they look delicio- I mean, adorable?

I'll eventually post all the animals I make as resources, once I've got them all done. All in all, it will include these chickens, a cow, and a dog ripped from Seiken Densetsu 3. Not a lot, I know, but I'm going to start small.

So... what do you think of my chickens? My favorite part is the rooster's tail. What I don't like is how I only have three frames, so I can't have them pick up their feet as they step forwards- like chickens are famous for doing. And the hen's tail looks sort of weird, I think I made it move too much. What says you?

speed

What? I mean, I understand that it would clean things up a bit, but if you have this 'event' in an opening map that the character will never enter again, what's the point? And will that help the speed issue at all...?

My policy is to not try very hard and then apologize for being a poor artist. Also maybe the proportions are off because he drawing ugly people DID YOU THINK OF THAT?!?!?!?!

Uh... uhh....

GYROMANCY! *throws algaophotis*

And I think the amazing flower-man is looking sharp! I bet he's the best-dressed flower-man in town.

Go flower-man, alright!!

Grr, I keep finding more and more reasons to switch my project to 2003....

But no! I will maintain my resolve! My resolve, and fear of change!

Thanks for trying, though.

Now a topic about character design.

Well, Lightning is proof that the game will have no/terrible writing.....

I mean, amnesia!? I might expect that from Sega, but.... ><

But you're right; every character's appearance should make some sense when tied into their setting and back story. If you have androgynous characters, androgyny should be something normal in the character's home setting. It's the same reason you don't want a character that is a solider to wear an extravagant costume; soldiers should look rugged and relatively uniform. Unless of course they're high-up, like Cecil from Final Fantasy.. (three, was it? I forget.)

Final Fantasy is a bad example, because it has a lot of characters that wear these really neat-looking outlandish outfits for no good reason. Seven was pretty good at that, until you got to Vincent.

Why the hell is the arm made of gold!?

On the other hand, though.... the main character is the one you're going to be staring at for the whole game. They should have something interesting that sets them apart from the people and scenery around them. So they have to be special enough to keep the audience's attention, but not too special.

And fanservice? Personally, I have nothing against it. They used fanservice very well with Motoko's character in Ghost in the Shell without ruining anything. Well, until they got to the second season. Something bad happened there, I swear.

Fangirls, however, I have issues about. Only the bad ones, though. Those are scary.

Midi playback

Laptops are fickle creatures... I also had a midi playback problem, but from what you've described it seems completely unrelated. What programs have you tried to play these files with? And does the problem arise in all the programs you've tried?
